Amanda Dawn Christie : Land Lost est une exposition qui fait état d’un certain parcours dans l’œuvre de l’artiste, du film expérimental, à la performance, en passant par la photographie et l’installation. L’exposition porte un regard sur l’influence du spectaculaire et de la performance dans son travail, de la présence et du rôle de la nature dans ses films et les défis du bricolage technologique, exigeant parfois des sacrifices personnels de l’artiste. Dans ce cas, Land Lost fait référence à l’alternance entre l’état lié à l’environnement présent et celui suscité par la mémoire et l’esprit. Un catalogue accompagnera l’exposition, incluant des textes de Scott Birdwise et Pip Chodorov.

Récemment finaliste pour le Prix national des arts médiatiques de l’AAMI, Amanda Dawn Christie a acquis une reconnaissance pour ses procédés et approches alternatifs à la pellicule et a composé un corpus unique de performances axées sur les possibilités technologiques, tout en retenant son intérêt pour les outils électroniques du passé récent. À travers l’exposition Land Lost, l’artiste tend à suspendre la réalité, créant un environnement fictif, mais imprégné de son vécu, et n’hésite pas à rompre la rêverie en révélant la relation intime entre le soi et la disparation des technologies.

Amanda Dawn Christie: Land Lost is a solo exhibition that attempts a modest lineage of Christie’s art practice: from experimental film, to performance, through to photography and installation. The exhibit looks at the influence of spectacle and performance found in Christie’s work, the implications of nature in the artist’s films, and the personal sometimes self-deprecating world of DIY technology. Here, Land Lost means to negotiate between one’s own site-specific state and the non-narrative space of memory and the mind. A catalogue will be produced including critical essays by writers Scott Birdwise, and Pip Chodorov.

Amanda Dawn Christie, recently shortlisted for the IMAA National Media Art Prize, has gained notoriety for her alternative processes and approaches to celluloid, and has brought to life a unique fusion of technology-driven performances, whilst remaining somewhat bound to electronics from our so-called past. For Amanda Dawn Christie: Land Lost, the artist carefully suspends reality, creating a fictional space with subtle streams from her life, but does not shy away from rupturing the dream-state to confront the viewer with the interlinked relationship of the self and the demise of technology.
