Responsibilities - Employer

The Employer has the following responsibilities:

  • to respect the time-lines for the Co-operative Education Office (BEC) recruiting process (posting of work term offers, interviews, confirmation of candidates' choices, matching, etc.);
  • to provide the BEC with a written copy of each available placement;
  • MAP, Christine Allain et sa superviseure Hélène LeBlanc-Basque, APÉCA (2008)to provide the BEC with up-to-date information on the employer and accurate details about each placement available;
  • to notify the BEC of any change or cancellation during the interview process;
  • to be familiar with and act in accordance with the policies and procedures of the BEC, i.e. the Université de Moncton;
  • to refrain from discussing matches with the candidates before, during and after the interview;
  • to refrain from offering any candidate information about other candidates and from asking candidates to compare themselves to others;
  • to offer several placements only when several candidates can be hired;
  • to agree to the candidate - employer match and the placement as advertised
  • to ensure that a placement in the co-operative program is not converted into a full-time position in such a way as to encourage a student to leave his or her study program;
  • to adhere to federal and provincial regulations regarding access to information, labour standards and human rights (see the government sites at: Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour and Job Bank);
  • to be flexible in responding to the changing availability of students from different disciplines and to understand that the BEC cannot guarantee that students will be available for all positions offered.
  • to offer Co-op students a healthy work environment and adequate supervision;
  • to provide Co-op students a reasonable, competitive salary;
  • to agree to communicate with a BEC staff member in person, by telephone or by e-mail, at any time before, during or after the work term;
  • to complete the evaluation form supplied by the BEC and return it to the BEC after discussing it with the student;v
  • to read and sign the student's work term report;
  • to be open in communications with the BEC about the student's job performance, including both positive and negative points and, if applicable, to notify the BEC of any behaviour or action that may be considered unsuitable.
