to support his geochemical and
oceanographic research. The
Canada Foundation for Innovation
and the New Brunswick Innovation
Foundation each awarded him a
$220,000 grant. Together, the
Université de Moncton’s Faculty of
Science and Faculty of Graduate
Studies and Research contributed
$20,000 to the project, and the
remainder is an in-kind contribution
from the supplier.
Maurice Beaudin, an economics
professor at the Shippagan campus,
received a $10,000 research grant
from Universitas Management, the
exclusive distributor of scholarship
plans promoted by the Universitas
Foundation of Canada.
Eight research projects conducted
by researchers at the Université de
Moncton were funded through the
Department of Environment and Local
Government’s Environmental Trust
Fund. The researchers received a little
more than $260,000 in funding.
New research chair
Marie-Andrée Giroux was named holder
of the Université de Moncton’s K.-C.
Irving Research Chair in Environmental
Sciences and Sustainable Development
for a five-year term. The purpose of this
research chair is to help develop and
use knowledge, and train scientists well
equipped to deal with the challenges
of environmental and sustainable
development issues.
Seniors play a key role in
New Brunswick communities
In December, the Consortium national
de formation en santé Research
Chair in Population Aging, Université
de Moncton and the Association
francophone des aînés du Nouveau-
Brunswick presented a study on the
economic and social contribution of
New Brunswick seniors. The purpose of
the study was to obtain data to counter
the sometimes false and derogatory
information spread by society, identify
the challenges of demographic aging
and highlight the significant contribution
that seniors make in our society.
Economists Maurice Beaudin and
Pierre-Marcel Desjardins greatly
contributed to this study.

entitled “Intégration de l’Internet
des objets dans des produits de
qualité de l’air,” led by a Faculty of
Engineering team in partnership
with ClairiTech Innovations Inc.,
is one of Academica’s top ten
most relevant and promising
topics in Canada.
