A unique and innovative major project
is taking shape at the Université de
Moncton with the announcement of
funding for the construction of the
New Brunswick Centre for Precision
Medicine. The federal government will
provide $10.5 million in funding, while
the Government of New Brunswick will
provide $5.25 million to the project.
The Université and other partners will
contribute $10.7 million to the project.
The New Brunswick Centre for
Precision Medicine is a centre
of excellence that will allow the
development of new customized
diagnostic and treatment options. It will
become a place for experimentation,
teaching and discovery.
The province’s first transdisciplinary
health research centre in a clinical
setting, the new facility will provide
a single roof bringing together the
expertise of several provincial research
centres specializing in biomedical
research, genetic sequencing and
population health.
To carry out this project, the Université
de Moncton relies on the collaboration
of valuable partners: the Centre de
formation médicale du Nouveau-
Brunswick, the Dr. Georges-L. Dumont
University Hospital Centre, the Atlantic
Cancer Research Institute and the
Vitalité Health Network. These partners
will form an essential technocity for life
sciences, which will also become an
economic centre of attraction.
The Centre will benefit the entire
province. In addition to substantial
direct and indirect economic benefits,
this centre of excellence will contribute
to building biomedical research capacity,
attracting and retaining highly-skilled
staff in a strategic area, multiplying
national and international collaborations,
developing new centres of excellence,
augmenting partnerships with industry
and increasing opportunities for
marketing new discoveries.
