throughout New Brunswick, particularly
in those areas where one of its three
campuses is located.
The Université de Moncton
is much more than an
institution of higher
education. It is a powerful
catalyst for New Brunswick’s
socio-economic, cultural
and political development.
Réginald Boudreau, President of the
Forum des maires de la Péninsule
acadienne also adds “The presence of
the Shippagan campus in the Acadian
Peninsula has resulted in significant
benefits across the community in a
number of sectors. It also helps diversify
our economy.”
Luc Michaud, President of the
Edmundston Chamber of Commerce,
believes that the Université de
Moncton’s presence offers the Northwest
region a strong advantage over its rivals
in terms of economic development.
We are privileged to have
such an institution in our
community. Not only does
the Edmundston campus
contribute directly to the
local economy through the
jobs it creates and the direct
spending it generates, but it
is also an asset for attracting
the workforce.
Moreover, by allowing young people to
study here, it supports the socio-cultural
and economic vitality of our region.”
The economic impact study also shows
that the Université de Moncton, as an
institution that benefits from public
funds, returns more than $55 million
annually to the governments’ tax
coffers. In 2015, the Government of
New Brunswick received nearly
$21 million in revenues thanks to the
presence of the Université de Moncton,
while the federal government received
more than $25.5 million. In addition,
in 2015, governments in the other
provinces and territories received
$8.5 million in tax revenues thanks
to the Université de Moncton.
