Significant grants awarded
to our researchers
A research team, led by Lise Savoie,
a professor at the School of Social
Work, received a $75,000 grant from
the Social Sciences and Humanities
Research Council (SSHRC) for a
quantitative study entitled “Comprendre
les rapports consentants et non
consentants à caractère sexuel des
étudiantes et des étudiants en milieu
universitaire.”
Michel T. Léger, a professor in the
Department of Primary Education and
Educational Psychology, received a
$65,000 grant from the SSHRC for an
exploratory study entitled “Un réseau
ClimaTIC pour atténuer le changement
climatique : une étude de cas multiples
des réseaux sociaux au service de
l’écodéveloppement en contexte de
famille.” The study also received an
additional $16,000 in funding from the
New Brunswick Environmental Trust
Fund.
The Université de Moncton’s Groupe
de recherche en édition critique received
a three-year $147,912 grant from the
SSHRC to continue its research and
publishing activities.
Étienne Hébert Chatelain, a professor
in the Department of Biology, received
a $225,000 grant jointly funded by the
Alzheimer Society of Canada, the Brain
Canada Foundation (with the financial
support of Health Canada) and the
New Brunswick Health Research
Foundation. This grant is awarded to
young researchers who are beginning
their career in research on Alzheimer’s
disease and dementia.
Leyla Sall, an associate professor of
sociology, and Hamadou Boubacar, an
associate professor of finance, received
a $50,000 grant from Immigration,
Refugees and Citizenship Canada for
their research project entitled “Niches
d’emplois et barrières d’accès au marché
du travail des nouveaux immigrants
francophones dans cinq villes des
provinces maritimes (Moncton,
Halifax, Charlottetown, St. John
and Fredericton).”
Luc Tremblay, a professor in the
Department of Chemistry and
Biochemistry, received grants worth
$570,000 to fund the purchase of state-
of-the-art technological infrastructure
Minister Kirsty Duncan meets
with researchers from the
Université de Moncton
The federal Minister of Science, Kirsty
Duncan, visited the Université de
Moncton in February during a tour of
Atlantic universities. During her visit,
she met with a group of researchers at
Dr. Marc Surette’s laboratory. Dr. Surette
is a professor in the Department of
Chemistry and Biochemistry and the
holder of the New Brunswick Innovation
Research Chair in Biosciences.
