Floods & Droughts

Floods & Droughts

GENERAL

Floods and droughts play a crucial role in the design of hydraulics structures as well as in assimilative the capacity of rivers.  As such, this research focuses on the best approach (i.e., best model) for the estimation high and low flows using frequency analysis using historical data and under climate change.  The project also addresses regional flood and low flows, as such estimation are required for ungauged rivers.  Researchers at the Climatic and Hydroscience Lab study floods and droughts using both the Peak Over Threshold (POT) or Deficit Below Threshold (DBT) as well as the Annual Flow Series (AFS) approaches.

PROJECTS

Projects funded by New Brunswick Environmental Trust Fund (ETF) :

  • Design manual for floods and droughts under climate change scenarios in New Brunswick (2010-2011);
  • Impact of climate change on floods and droughts under climate scenarios in New Brunswick (2009-2010).
