Strategic planning in the municipal sector is essential to community, cultural, economic and environmental development. However, this is an arduous exercise that does not always lead to the expected results. Municipalities will face significant challenges over the next few years and a strategic planning exercise that works is in order. A lot of money and time is invested in a strategic planning exercise and we all have an interest in seeing the results testify to the effectiveness of the exercise.
Strategic planning should not be seen as an isolated exercise or to be done eventually. It is rather a concrete exercise that must be carried out every day. The strategic planning document must be active and must guide the daily actions of your departments, your teams and your employees.

During this training, you will question the way you conceive the strategic planning and its use in your municipality. Through a practical exercise, you will have the opportunity to put what you have learned  into concrete action and you will have acquired a different perspective in relation to strategic planning.

Goals:

At the end of this workshop participants will:

  • follow the essential steps for successful strategic planning;
  • put in place the actions necessary to implement the elements identified in the strategic planning;
  • support the members of your respective team and your individual planning towards the elements of the strategic planning;
  • assess the results against the strategic planning and how to manage the situation according to the results;
  • communicate the elements of the strategic planning in a concise and effective manner.
