Strategic planning: Dare to dream!
On May 14, the Université de Moncton officially launched a strategic planning process under
the theme
Université de Moncton 2020: Dare to dream!
Over the next few months, the
university community, partners and New Brunswick francophone and Acadian community
leaders will join president Raymond Théberge in group and one-on-one discussions on the
future of the institution. The Université de Moncton launched the strategic planning exercise
by initiating discussions on five major themes: 1) Recruitment and a culture of success for
students, 2) Quality of education, 3) Internationalization, 4) Research, development, creation
and innovation and 5) Community outreach. Over the next few months, university officials,
groups, faculties as well as individuals and community leaders will be convened to meetings
with the university president. The objective is to give a voice to all members of the university
community and to hear from stakeholders.
Université de Moncton and Mount Allison University
welcome Chiasson as artist in residence
Renowned Acadian artist and former New Brunswick lieutenant governor, Herménégilde
Chiasson, is the first artist in residence at Casino New Brunswick. During his three-year
mandate, his time will be shared between the Université de Moncton and Mount Allison
University, two of his
alma mater
. The project is funded by Casino New Brunswick
with a grant of $500,000.
Income tax project
At the Edmundston campus, on March 7 and 8, more than 265 income tax and benefit returns
were prepared during the annual income tax project organized by the business administration
program. The returns were prepared free of charge by about twenty volunteers from the second
year tax course. The project was supervised by Jean-François Saucier, professor, Paul Cormier,
from the Canada Revenue Agency, and Samar Effendi, a former student of the tax course.
And, during a weekend in March, third and fourth year administration students from the
Moncton campus volunteered their services to prepare income tax returns for 688 individuals
who had simple tax situations and whose income was below $30,000. This was 54 more than
the previous year. Between March 22 and 24, the students completed 395 returns. They also
completed 256 returns in homes and institutions and made three house calls to accommodate
handicapped individuals. An additional 34 returns were prepared for individuals with appointments.
Moncton and Sherbrooke universities renew their cooperation
agreement and inaugurate the CFMNB’s new facilities
On November 1
st
, 2012, Université de Sherbrooke president Luce Samoisette and Université de Moncton
president Raymond Théberge signed a new agreement which provides for continued cooperation
in the area of medical training for French-speaking Acadian students under the Université de
Sherbrooke’s predoctoral medical training program. This agreement was initiated in 2006.
