Alumni association activities
At the Soirée Ovation 2012, the Association des anciens,
anciennes et amis de l’Université de Moncton, Moncton
Campus honored two of its members, Édith Butler and
Gaetan Lanteigne.
Performer Édith Butler was awarded the Order of Merit for
Université de Moncton graduates. This award recognizes
the outstanding contribution of a member of the alumni
who gives honour to her/his alma mater and profession,
be it in the religious, political, social, economic, scientific
or artistic field. The alumni association also awarded the
Prix Émergence
to Gaetan Lanteigne, who teaches small
business management at the New Brunswick Community
College – Acadian Peninsula Campus.
In Edmundston, the Cyrille-Simard
benefit roast, organized in March
2013 by the Fondation Saint-Louis-
Maillet at the Palais des congrès
d’Edmundston, raised $25,000.
Mr. Simard is an entrepreneur and
the mayor of the City of Edmundston.
The Association des Anciens, Anciennes et Ami-e-s de
l’Université de Moncton, Shippagan Campus held its fall
supper on October 28, 2012 as part of the university’s
50
th
anniversary celebration. President and vice-chancellor
Raymond Théberge was guest speaker.
The third edition of the conference
series
L’Acadie 2020
of the
Association des anciens, anciennes
et amis de l’Université de Moncton
entitled
L’avenir économique du
Canada atlantique passe par
quoi ?
was held in March at the Moncton campus. Hosted by
Jeffrey Simpson with the participation of Sophie Thériault,
Sébastien Breau and Pierre-Yves Julien, the conference was
an excellent forum to reflect and exchange ideas on issues
affecting l’Acadie, today and in the future, with the intent
of better understanding how the world situation impacts
our development here. Close to 200 people participated in
the exchange which fostered perspectives that are different
from those generally presented in the public arena as
well as new insights on issues at the heart of our
development as a society.
International Week, a long-standing tradition
Under the theme L’UMCE, a campus with an international
flair!, International Week was launched at the Edmundston
campus on February 4, 2013 with the traditional flags
ceremony before a packed audience of guests, students,
faculty and staff members.
At the Moncton campus, the international student association
(the Association des étudiantes et étudiants internationaux de
l’Université de Moncton) presented the 37
th
edition of the very
popular international evening at the Ceps Louis-J.-Robichaud.
Held on Saturday, February 16, the theme of the event was
A view of the world... through the eyes of others
.
At the Shippagan campus, the 8
th
International Week was
held from February 4 to 9 and featured many activities.
Ireland was celebrated during the international supper.
