Annual Report 2015-2016 - page 8-9

Established four years ago at the Edmundston campus, the Northern
Hardwoods Research Institute (NHRI) is becoming more and more
well-knowned.
With a diversified team of twelve people, its successes are the result of a
partnership with the forestry sector in New Brunswick. Multiple research
projects are also being conducted in partnership with a network of experts
from universities or research institutes located in Quebec and Ontario, as
well as in the State of Maine in the United States.
The NHRI has developed a tree classification system for New Brunswick that
is now being used for several research projects in Maine. The institute also
designed a silviculture prescription system to promote the management of
hardwood forests in New Brunswick. It is in the process of introducing the
same system in New England.
The applied research conducted at the institute allows it to find solutions
to important issues in the forestry sector and to improve the sustainable
management of hardwood forests.

Internationalization
The Université de Moncton’s student population
and faculty at its three campuses have become
highly internationalized. We must, however, keep
pace with the changes and invest the resources
required to properly welcome students from
all over the world and fully integrate them to
guarantee their success.
At the three campuses, international recruitment
is growing rapidly. We must continue to assess
our capacity to welcome the international student
population.
The university want its international strategy to
speak to classrooms, teaching methods, research
partnerships and the development of exchange and
mobility initiatives for both students and faculty
members.
