Annual Report Highlights
2015-2016
Quality education and
student experience
Contributing to the intellectual and personal
development of students is at the core of the
Université de Moncton’s mission. We must,
therefore, create an environment that is both
inspiring and supportive for students. A quality
student experience is conducive to success
and perseverance in one’s studies. It favours
a socially and culturally rich life on campus.
We want to offer programs that provide high
quality academic, scientific, professional and
personal education. We also want to meet the
needs of both society and students.
A decline in high school population and an
increase in competition from other universities
are significant challenges. The university has
strengthened its recruitment strategy to remain
the destination of choice for New Brunswick
Francophone students. At the same time, it has
broadened the focus of its recruitment strategy
to reach the francophonie in Canada and around
the world.
Convocation
The Université de Moncton conferred 1,021 new
degrees at its three campuses during the 2015-2016
academic year.
At the May 2016 convocation, it granted three
doctorates
honoris causa
: in public administration to
Donald Ferguson, in information and communication
to Chantal Hébert and in liberal arts to Claude
Robinson. Emeritus status in biology was conferred
to Andrew Boghen.
The university’s excellence in mentoring award
was presented to professors Renée Guimond-
Plourde, education and kinesiology sector at the
Edmundston campus, and Marc Surette, chemistry
and biology department at the Moncton campus.
Professor Robert Levesque, education and
kinesiology sector at the Edmundston campus, was
the recipient of the excellence in teaching award.
The Governor General of Canada gold medal was
awarded to Tanya Arseneault. She graduated with a
PhD in life sciences. Guillaume Deschênes-Thériault
received the silver medal. He completed a bachelor
of social sciences (honours in political science).
CCNB and the university conclude
agreements for student mobility
The Université de Moncton and the Collège
communautaire du Nouveau-Brunswick concluded
agreements that recognize credits toward bachelor
degrees, namely in social work and nursing.
Recognition of Governor General
academic medal recipients
In the fall of 2015, 21 recipients of the 2015 Governor
General’s academic medals from French-language
schools in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince
Edward Island chose to pursue their post-secondary
studies at the Université de Moncton. They received
scholarships that could amount to more than
$388,342. This includes the prestigious Roméo
LeBlanc scholarship that equals the tuition fee
amounts until graduation. Of the 21 laureates, four
are at the Edmundston campus, 14 at the Moncton
campus and three at the Shippagan campus.
Best recruitment video
The Université de Moncton is the winner of the
Kira Academic Award that recognizes the best
recruitment video in the world produced by a
post-secondary institution.
The university was one of four finalists. It garnered
68% of the votes in addition to having been
declared the winner by the selection committee.
The evaluation was based on three criteria:
recruitment effectiveness, emotional appeal and
entertainment value. The winning video focuses
on access to French-language studies in Acadie.
Partnership with the FÉÉCUM to enhance the
student experience
Through partnership agreements, two initiatives will
be carried out by the Université of Moncton and
the Moncton campus student union, the Fédération
des étudiantes et des édudiants du campus
universitaire de Moncton (FÉÉCUM). The university
will contribute to the FÉÉCUM bursary fund for
students in unpaid internships. It will also contribute
to the projects funded by the student union’s
participatory budget. These two initiatives are part
of the university’s efforts to enhance the learning
environment and the total university experience.
10
th
anniversary of the alUMni Repères
Program
The
Repères
program celebrated ten years of
success. It was born from a partnership between
the Student Services guidance department, the
alUMni (the university’s alumni) and the office of
alumni and friends.
Since the winter of 2005, more than 400 students
have been paired with Université de Moncton
graduates. This pairing allows students to explore
the labour market and to expand their network
of contacts.
