Two prestigious prizes were awarded to
What is
Government Good At: A Canadian Answer
written by
Donald J. Savoie
, professor and Canada Research
Chair in Public Administration and Governance.
The book received the 2015-2016 Donner Prize
which recognizes authors of books on Canadian
public policy. Mr. Savoie was also presented with the
Writers’ Federation of New Brunswick’s first-ever
Book Award in the non-fiction category.
Lita Villalon
, retired professor from the school
of food sciences, nutrition and family studies,
was awarded an Emeritus Membership Award by
Dietitians Canada. The award is the association’s
highest recognition granted to a retired member
who has made a unique and significant contribution
to the profession.
The Canadian Historical Association presented
the Atlantic Clio Prize to
Gregory Kennedy
for
his first book on colonial Acadian history. He is
a history and geography department professor
and the scientific director of the Institut d’études
acadiennes. Published at McGill-Queen’s University
Press, the book is entitled
Something of a Peasant
Paradise? Comparing Rural Societies in Acadie and
the Loudunais, 1604-1755
.
The Faculty of graduate studies and research
presented the president’s award to life studies
doctoral student
Jean-Philippe Michaud
for his
article entitled “Rewriting Ecological Succession
History: Did Carrion Ecologists Get There First?”
published in the
Quarterly Review of Biology
.
Daria Ponomartchouk
, doctorate in clinical
psychology, received a certificate of academic
excellence from the Canadian Society of Psychology
for the exceptional quality of her thesis under the
direction of Professor
Geneviève Bouchard
.
The Conseil supérieur de la langue française
presented the badges of the Ordre des
francophones d’Amérique to
Annette Boudreau
,
professor and director of the Centre for Research
in Applied Linguistics. Ms. Boudreau was one of the
distinguished personalities from La Francophonie
to have dedicated herself to the preservation and
promotion of the French language in America.
Caroline Humphrey
, Juris Doctor student, received
one of two prizes for excellence awarded in North
America by the American College of Trial Lawyers
for her performance as best advocate in the 2016
Sopinka competition.
Alex Saulnier
and
Émilie Bouchard
were chosen
the university’s athletes of the year for the Atlantic
University Sport 2015-2016 season.

Noémi Pépin
received the top prize in the R3
Student Innovation Challenge. She works under
the direction of department of biology professor
David Joly. Noémi is involved in a project focused
on diseases affecting the sativa cannabis plant.
Professor
Paul Deguire
, department of mathematics
and statistics, received the Nicole Raymond Award.
It is presented each year by the Federation of
New Brunswick Faculty Associations to a person or
a group having contributed to the advancement of
post-secondary education in New Brunswick.
Shippagan campus sociology professor
Michelle Landry
is the author of
L’Acadie politique:
histoire sociopolitique de l’Acadie du Nouveau-
Brunswick
, published at the Presses de l’Université
Laval in the collection « Langues officielles et
sociétés » (Official Languages and Society). This
collection is under the direction of the Canadian
Institute for Research on Linguistic Minorities.
The Faculty of graduate studies and research
presented the 2015 Vo-Van best thesis award to
Manon Jolicoeur
for her thesis entitled
L’impact de
cercles de lecture au sein d’équipes de hockey de
garçons de neuf et dix ans du Nouveau-Brunswick
francophone
. She completed her thesis under the
direction of Professor Marianne Cormier.
The Faculty of science presented the Bernard
Vanbrugghe award for excellence in teaching
to
Marc Surette
, department of chemistry and
biochemistry. Created in 2002, the prize is awarded
every two years to a faculty member who stands out
for the quality of his or her teaching.
Edmundston campus bachelor of nursing student
Isabelle Wallace
is the recipient of an excellence
scholarship awarded by the Consortium national de
formation en santé.
During her studies, her commitment to the
community, her participation to life on campus and
her academic performance were outstanding.
Second-year education doctoral student
Rachelle
Gauthier
was one of 25 finalists in the Storytellers
contest presented by the Social Sciences and
Humanities Research Council.
Fernand de Varennes
, dean of the Faculty of
law, was appointed to the New Brunswick Bar
Association Truth and Reconciliation Commission
calls to action committee. The committee seeks
to respond to calls for action intended to address
the legacy of residential schools and advance the
process of reconciliation in the province.
A new book by

, department of physics
and astronomy professor, was published by Johns
Hopkins University Press. The book is entitled
