The Université de Moncton has just received a $1 million donation from Technology Venture Corporation and the Excellence NB Association. This funding will allow the Université to strengthen its strategic positioning in the sector of artificial intelligence in the field of health.

This major gift will lead to the creation of the Research Chair in Artificial Intelligence in Health and the Excellence NB Research Fund, to provide funding for research projects in the field of health using artificial intelligence technologies.

“We recognize the importance of investing in research and training in artificial intelligence, a fast-growing sector of activity at the Université de Moncton,” said Jon Manship, President of Technology Venture Corporation. “The establishment of a new Research Chair in Artificial Intelligence in Health at the Université de Moncton opens up new perspectives for transforming research into concrete solutions for society.”

“As champions of collaboration and entrepreneurship, it is a natural fit to endorse Université de Moncton’s efforts in pioneering AI research,” said Renée Charron, Executive Director of the Excellence NB Association. “The Excellence NB Research Fund will support research initiatives that will transform New Brunswick's economic and cultural landscape. We are proud to support the shaping of a vibrant economy we see before us through the fostering of innovation and progress.”

“We are grateful for the exceptional generosity of Technology Venture Corporation and Excellence NB towards the Université de Moncton,” stated Dr. Denis Prud’homme, President and Vice-Chancellor of the Université de Moncton. “This major investment will enable us to broaden our expertise and leadership in artificial intelligence, increase collaborative research with partners, and expand training in artificial intelligence and data science.”

The holder of the new Research Chair in Artificial Intelligence in Health will be announced in the coming months.

As part of its new strategic objectives, the Université de Moncton aims to maintain its position as the largest center of excellence in artificial intelligence in Atlantic Canada, and the benchmark for transforming societies through innovation.
