Press Release

Thursday, April 20, 2023

Two days of EDI-D discussions titled Living within the Rainbow will be held at UMoncton’s Jeanne-de-Valois amphitheatre May 16th and 17th

As part of its 2023 Teaching and University Support Days, the Service d’animation et de soutien à l’enseignement (SASE) is pleased to join PRIDE UMoncton and the Conseil ÉDI-FESR in inviting the public and the university community to two days of reflection on the issues of equity, diversity, inclusion, and decolonization within our institutional and community environments.

While media shows a growing number of acts of intolerance and persecution against its diverse population, one might think that past achievements in terms of EDI-D are proving insufficient to counter these renewed threats. This situation calls for movements of solidarity that are perhaps better informed of the inherent complexities of EDID-D issues. Consequently, improved education and structured strategies of action are needed. University teaching and learning can hardly stay on the sidelines on these issues.

These two days of reflection are intended to be an opportunity for sharing, exchanges, enrichment and a celebration likely to contribute to better understanding our own diversities.

A wine and cheese kick off event will take place on Tuesday, May 16 starting at 5 p.m. followed by a colorful opening ceremony with a smudge, a testimonial by Dawn Chevarie and a singing and reading performance by Drag Queen Equi Knox. Several speakers and specialists in the field will appear the next morning following the raising of the Pride flag at 8:30 a.m. at the Uni stadium. Invited speakers include Marvin Claybourn of CAUT’s equity committee. A round table will take place from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. to close this not-to-be-missed event.

There will be free entry for the public and members of the university community by reserving your place at this link.
