Aigles Bleus to face Reds on Friday in Fredericton

The Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus will finish the first semester by visiting the University of New Brunswick Reds on Friday at 7 p.m. at the Aitken University Centre in Fredericton in an Atlantic University Sport men's hockey game.

This will be Moncton's 18th game of 30 this season and the last before the holiday break. With a record of 10 wins and 7 losses, 20 points, Moncton is third in the standings with the Saint Mary's Huskies which also have 20 points. The Reds are ranked first in the country and in the AUS with 13 wins, two losses and one shootout loss for 27 points.

The task will not be easy, Moncton has lost its last two duels and UNB its last. The Reds' offence is to watch with 70 goals scored in 16 games and only 25 against, a difference of 45. The Aigles found the back of the net 59 times and allowed 52 goals, a difference of 7. The Reds' power play is explosive with 22 goals in 83 attempts compared to 14 in 64 for Moncton. UNB has 5 shorthanded goals and Moncton, 2.

Coach Derek Cormier is completing his first semester in a good position to qualify for the postseason playoffs. He knows it is possible to win. Moncton had won 4-1 against the Reds before losing 8-2 in another game. This is the third duel this season.

“We need to play 60 minutes and be disciplined on the ice,” coach Derek Cormier said. “Our defence will have to play well in our zone, and we want to get the puck out as quickly as possible to go down the ice on the offensive.”

The game will be available for viewing at the AUStv.ca.
