Soccer teams want to prove themselves this weekend

The high calibre of university soccer is well known in Atlantic Canada and the two Université de Moncton teams intend to offer the best possible performance with two games each on the weekend.

The Aigles Bleues (0-8-0=0pts, 10th position) and Aigles Bleus (3-2-2=12pts, 6th position) will be in Wolfville on Friday to face the Axewomen (5 p.m. – women, 6-2-1=19pts, 3rd position) and Axemen (7:15 p.m. – men, 0-6-3=3pts, 9th position). Saturday, at Stade Croix Bleue Medavie Stadium on the Moncton campus, it's the last home games of the season against the Mount Allison University Mounties at 5 p.m. (women, 1-7-1=4pts, 9th position) and 7:15 p.m. (men, 1-6-2=5pts,8th place).

The Aigles Bleues are still looking for their first win of the season and the opponents will be tough this weekend. The Axewomen have already secured their place in the AUS championship tournament and the Mounties have their only win of the season against the Aigles Bleues.

“We hope to score our first point of the season,” said coach Mehyar Zekaroui. “We are in a pretty difficult situation with our last four games. We have lost games in brief game moments that hurt us. We conceded 2 or 3 goals in an interval of 8 to 15 minutes. It's difficult, we try to solve everything. Our girls are motivated against Mount Allison, a team within our reach. We are competitive enough to get our first point. Against Acadia, we can compete with them and get a point.”

“These are two very important games for us to continue,” added men’s coach Younes Bouida of the Aigles Bleus. “We take the game one at a time and need to be focused and play with energy. We played a draw against Acadia with a last-minute goal, and we need to play better. It's always difficult to play Acadia at their turf. This is a team that gives us a hard time. We will have to give it our all. The Mounties just won their first game, and they will be ready for us. We have to play tough mentally.”
