15 Moncton campus athletes nominated for awards at Athletes Gala

The annual Athlete Recognition Gala of the Université de Moncton athletic department of the Moncton campus will take place on Thursday, April 7 and 15 athletes have been nominated for the awards that will be presented during the evening at the Delta Beauséjour in downtown Moncton.

Another exciting season interrupted by the pandemic has just ended. Despite the uncertain situations related to the pandemic, the nine (9) teams’ athletes were able to demonstrate their skills following a year of absence from competitions the previous season. The various awards of merit for the 2021-2022 season will be presented to student athletes competing in the Atlantic University Sport and U SPORTS competitions.

The four nominees for female athlete of the year are: Ivana Urquhart Mladineo of Saint John in volleyball; Janie Poitras of Saint-André-de-Madawaska in hockey; Natalie Fleming of Moncton in soccer and Kyla Hughes of Cocagne, in athletics, all from New Brunswick.

The title of male athlete of the year will be awarded to one of the three nominees: Vincent Deslauriers, of Blainville, Quebec, in hockey; Jérémie Gervais of Moncton in cross-country and André LeBlanc of Dieppe in soccer, both from New Brunswick.

A hockey player from Lévis, Quebec, Nathaël Roy; a soccer striker from Ottawa, Ontario, George Musitu and track and a field athlete from Notre-Dame-de-Kent, New Brunswick, Samuel Bourque, are all three in contention for the men's rookie title.

The selection for the women's rookie title will be between five athletes: Erica Plourde of Pigeon Hill, hockey; Roxanne Albert of Bouctouche, in athletics; Sara Chiasson, of Pointe-à-Bouleau, volleyball; Hannah Levysshon of Moncton, in cross-country, all from New Brunswick and Leila Karim, of Bromont, Quebec in soccer.

The coach of the year and recognition awards will also be presented during the evening. The mvp athletes of each team will also be unveiled.
