On Saturday, the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues (1 and 7=2pts, 5th position) travel to Fredericton for a duel against the University of New Brunswick Reds (5-5=10pts, 4th position) in an Atlantic University Sport women's volleyball game at 2 p.m.

It is the return to play following a two-month break that offered hopes and disappointments to students/athletes who wanted to complete their sports season. Moncton and UNB each won their last game before the holiday break. The last game of the blue and gold dates back to November 21st.

For the Aigles head coach, Joline Richard, “We are excited, and we can't wait to get back to a normal period, play and competition. January was more difficult with the restrictions, but we stayed connected and the girls are grateful that we have this chance to play. Last year, they didn't have a season.”

The Blue and Gold now has three weeks of games before the playoffs in March. The return to play on Saturday is appreciated. The team will play six games, including five at home before the playoffs, including a three-game home weekend against Memorial.

“We held two weeks of training following a rest that did good,” adds Joline Richard. “I feel them ready to return to competition. They are physically fit. Mentally, we lived a roller coaster period of emotions, but with the assurance of the return to play, everything is stable, and the girls put their energy on the weekend game.”

Veteran Télia Gaudet is playing her fifth season with the Aigles Bleues. “We're really excited to be able to play,” she said. “We've been training hard all year; we want to give it everything. We continued our training at CEPS and at home and we did everything we could to keep fit and motivated. We have three weeks of games left and we hope to have fun, win and play as a team.”

The playoffs begin around March 9.
