Two volleyball and a track and field athletes have signed their U SPORTS letter of intent to wear the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues jersey for the upcoming Atlantic University Sport season.

Anne Paquette, from Baie-Sainte-Anne, and Kyana Sivret, from Tracadie, will be joining coach Joline Richard’s volleyball team, whereas Roxanne Albert, from Bouctouche, will be a track and field athlete under head coach Steve LeBlanc.

Anne Paquette

Standing at 5′7″, Anne Paquette, 17, attended école Mgr-Marcel-François-Richard, in Saint-Louis-de-Kent, to play volleyball with the Corsaires, the 2020-2021 Eastern Conference girls’ AAA volleyball champions. Paquette was awarded the prestigious Prix Paul-Manuel for her academic and sports performances in June. Paquette, who has been playing volleyball for five years, says she is looking forward to striking the ball with more strength. She will be studying in the nursing program.

“It has been my dream to play volleyball at the university level,” she mentioned. “There were not enough girls to field a high calibre team in Baie-Sainte-Anne. I enjoy attacking and receiving the ball. I hope to become one of the six base players of the team.”

Kyana Sivret

Kyana Sivret, 17, measures 5′10″. Sivret hopes to become an impact player and to make a difference on the squad with her seven years of experience. She will study in the nursing program as well.

“I wanted to join the Aigles Bleues to continue playing volleyball at a high level,” she indicated. “I play well under pressure, I learn fast, and I listen well. I adapt well to changes, and I am a particularly good team player. Since I was a young girl, I heard about the Aigles Bleues and that is my university team. I hope to better my defensive play.”

“I am happy Kyana decided to join our team,” volleyball head coach Joline Richard said. “Her height and her play at the net will make a difference for our team. Anne is a go-getter and a determined player on a volleyball court. She will make her presence known by her skills and agility.”

Roxanne Albert

Roxanne Albert, 17, has been involved in track and field for about 10 years. A Clément-Cormier graduate, the 5′1″ athlete is a sprint specialist and a long jumper. She was named female athlete of the year of her school in May. Albert will study in the education program,

“In Grade 9, I told my mother I wanted to be a university athlete,” she declared. “After being involved in school track and field, I realized I could continue in this sport during my studies at Université de Moncton. I wanted to continue studying in French, an important language for me. I hope to qualify for the U SPORTS championship at least once in my four years. This is my first year as a club member, and I know coaches Steve and Ron LeBlanc and athletes Max Mazerolle, Yannick Boudreau, Samuel Bourque, and Kyla Hugues. I wish to finish stronger in my sprints and with more speed and strength.”

“Roxanne is a fine addition to our team,” stated coach Steve LeBlanc. “She brings speed for our sprints and to our relays. She is also good in long jump. She is a balanced multisport athlete with an excellent attitude. She will fit right in our women’s team.”
