University hockey is the highest calibre of play in the area and the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus (6-4-2=14 points, 4th position) are very competitive this season. They visit Acadia University Axemen (3-6-1=7 points, 6th position) for the first time this season on Sunday at 3 p.m. in Wolfville in Atlantic University Sport men’s hockey action.

Fresh from a 6-0 win over Saint Mary’s University Huskies on Wednesday, the team is looking forward to Sunday’s game to narrow the gap with the second place.

“This is the only team we have not won this season because we have not played them yet,” affirmed Moncton coach Judes Vallée. “Our objective is to beat every team at least once to show we can play with any of the teams during the playoffs. We are not sure what to expect. The Axemen are winning with a young team with 12 rookies. We know it will not be an easy game. We want to get closer to the teams higher in the standings.”

Vallée is not sure he will have all his charges for the game. Two were injured on Wednesday evening, and a decision on whether to play or not will be taken on Sunday. Étienne Montpetit will be the goaltender.

“We need to play hard after the first whistle against the Axemen,” said forward Vincent Deslauriers. “We know we are capable of winning, so we need to play as we did on Wednesday evening. We must use our speed, shoot and score on this larger ice surface.”

The Acadia ice surface is Olympic size. The game is on AUStv.ca.
