During its meeting on Saturday, June 9, the Board of Governors of the Université de Moncton announced the appointment of Louise Imbeault as the ninth Chancellor of the Université de Moncton for a five-year term. She succeeds Jean-Claude Savoie, who has been Chancellor since 2013.

Ms. Imbeault is originally from Moncton and is well known in the region, partly because of her fruitful career at Radio-Canada since 1980. She started as coordinator for the image of women in Radio-Canada/CBC programming in Ottawa for all the French and English networks across the country. She then returned to Moncton as head of news at Radio-Canada Atlantique. She then became director of television, station manager and, to round out her career, director of radio, television and internet at Radio-Canada Acadie.

Ms. Imbeault holds a Bachelor of Arts (Economics and Philosophy) and a Bachelor of Education from the Université de Moncton. She also trained at the École supérieure de journalisme in Lille, France, and completed two years of study for her Masters of Philosophy at the Université de Moncton.

Ms. Imbeault is very active in the community. She has been the Chair of the Board of Directors of the Société Nationale de l’Acadie since September 2017; Chair of the Board of Directors of Roche-Papier-Ciseaux, a Francophone daycare in downtown Moncton; member of the Société de l’Acadie du Nouveau-Brunswick (SANB); member of the Association des boursiers et boursières France-Acadie and member of the Board of Directors of the Accent regional television project. She was also President of the Board of Directors of the Sheila Hugh McKay Foundation, which encourages the development of the visual arts in New Brunswick, until June 2018; Co-chair of the Moncton Cultural Board until April 2018; member of the Board of Directors of the Caisse populaire Beauséjour and Chair of the Office de stabilisation of the Fédération des Caisses populaires acadiennes.

Ms. Imbeault has received many recognition over her personal and professional career. She received the Order of Moncton 2016; the Advocacy Award 2011 of the Sheila Hugh MacKay Foundation for her work to promote the arts in New Brunswick; the 2011 Tableau d’honneur of the Réseau des femmes d’affaires francophones du Canada; the Prix Albert-M.-Sormany 2010, presented by the SANB for her participation and engagement in the development of the Acadian community; and the CBC President’s Award for exceptional coverage of the Congrès mondial acadien 2009.

The investiture ceremony for the new Chancellor will take place this fall on the Moncton campus.
