TH
ANNIVERSARY
OF THE MUSÉE ACADIEN
The Musée acadien de l’Université de Moncton
celebrated its 125th anniversary. This venerable institution
was founded in 1886 at the Collège Saint-Joseph in
Memramcook by Father Camille Lefebvre, superior. It was
during the 1940’s, under the leadership of Father Clément
Cormier, that the museum became definitely oriented
towards Acadian culture. The museum’s collection now
features over 40,000 objects and photographs. Some of
the artifacts have a huge historical value. The museum’s
new permanent exhibition created in 2005 presents an
overview of Acadian history and material cultural; it is
equipped with listening stations and videos. A separate
room houses temporary exhibits of various objects of
the vast collection as well as travelling exhibits.
INTERINSTITUTIONAL
AGREEMENTS
On June 17, the Shippagan Campus and the CCNB –
Bathurst Campus signed agreements stipulating that
as of September 2011, students who complete the
CCNB Technologie de l’informatique - programmation
et analyse program can pursue university studies
towards a bachelor in information management degree.
And, students who complete the CCNB Technologie
de l’environnement program can obtain a maximum
of 55 university credits towards the bachelor degree
in integrated coastal zone management.
LAUNCHING OF
DOCTORAL PROGRAMS
The life sciences doctorate program was officially
launched on January 26 at the science faculty. This new
program will enable the university to train high-level
researchers who can supervise projects in areas such
as the ecology, evolution, the environment, molecular
and cellular biology and physiology. These areas are
part of two of the university’s key development areas:
the environment and health. This program is under the
responsibility of the science faculty and its professors
who belong to various departments, mainly biology,
and chemistry and biochemistry.
At its November 18, 2011 meeting, the Maritime
Provinces Higher Education Commission approved
the professional doctorate in psychology program.
The health sciences and community services School of
Psychology now offers three higher education programs
in psychology: the doctorate in psychology (D. Psy), the
Ph.D. and the master’s degree. The new program was
launched on February 24. Well recognized nationally
as well as throughout North America, the doctorate
in clinical psychology is part of a new trend.
EDUCATIONAL COHABITATION
PROJECT IN EDMUNDSTON
February 3
rd
marked the inauguration of the shared
accommodations constructed or renovated as part
of the Edmundston campus cohabitation project
between the Université de Moncton and the Collège
communautaire du Nouveau-Brunswick. This innovative
concept is the only one of its kind in Canada. Since
the start of the 2011 fall session, the two institutions
are sharing a student centre, the Rhéa-Larose Library
and a multipurpose room.
RECORD AMOUNT RAISED
AT THE BERNARD VALCOUT
BENEFIT ROAST
In February, the organizers of the Fondation Saint-Louis-
Maillet 16
th
benefit roast pulled out all the stops and
raised an unprecedented amount of $80,000 while
they roasted Bernard Valcourt.
With this amount, to the great delight of the guests
who had gathered for a meal at the Cité des jeunes
A.-M.-Sormany in Edmundston, the foundation reached
and even surpassed its two-million-dollar mark. The
foundation celebrates its 25
th
anniversary in 2012.
The evening dedicated to the
Honorable Bernard
Valcourt
, Minister of State (Atlantic Canada
Opportunities Agency) (La Francophonie) and Member
of Parliament for Madawaska-Restigouche, was truly
worthy of the minister’s reputation.
