Measuring environmental DNA is a promising method for freshwater ecology and monitoring. Unlike many ecological methods, measuring eDNA is potentially scalable to the vast amount of freshwater systems in Canada. However, there are still many unknowns about what factors inuence production, degradation, and dispersion of eDNA in water. It is essential to study these processes if measured eDNA will be used to infer abundance of individuals. In this seminar, I will discuss eDNA services that my lab, CRI Genomics, is providing to interest groups in Atlantic Canada. I will also describe our investigations to use measured eDNA to estimate abundance of Atlantic Salmon.
