16 Moncton campus athletes nominated for awards at Athletes Gala

Several awards will be presented at the annual Athlete Recognition Gala of the Athletic Department of the Moncton campus of the Université de Moncton amongst the 16 nominated athletes on Thursday, April 4 at the Capitol Theatre in downtown Moncton.

Fans enjoyed the many emotions and performances of the many students/athletes of the 9 teams throughout the year. The various awards of merit for the 2023-2024 season will be presented to athletes who compete in Atlantic University Sport and U SPORTS competitions. They demonstrated their skills on the field, the gym floor, the ice and on the track.

The five nominees for female athlete of the year all live in New Brunswick. They are Caroline Gagnon of Moncton in track and field; Cassidy Martin of Saint-Charles-de-Kent in volleyball; Sophie Black of Dieppe in cross country; Erica Plourde of Pigeon Hill in hockey and Alexane Dupuis of Dieppe in soccer.

There are three nominees for the male athlete of the year award. They are Jacob Dion of Sherbrooke, Quebec; Alain Lavoie of Grand Falls, N.B., in cross country and Samuel Bourque of Notre-Dame-de-Kent, N.B., in track and field.

A hockey goaltender from Drummondville, Quebec, Olivier Adam; a soccer goalkeeper from Flavin, France, Matteo Blanc; track and field athlete from Antananarivo, Madagascar, Tippi Razafindroriaka; and Notre-Dame-de-Kent, N.B., cross-country runner Pascal LeBlanc are the four people in the running for the men's rookie of the year title.

The selection for the female rookie title will be made among four athletes: Elizabeth Galipeau of Bedford, Quebec, in hockey; Madalyn MacKinnon of Riverview, N.B., in track and field and cross country; Hannah Lytwyn of Winnipeg, Manitoba, in volleyball; and Madeleine Belliveau of Dieppe, N.B., in soccer.

Other prizes will be awarded during the gala evening, including those of Team Sportsmanship Award, the President’s Award, and the Coach of the year Award. Each team's most outstanding athletes will also be announced during the evening.
