Aigles Bleus defeated by UQTR at U SPORTS men’s hockey University Cup
The Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières Patriotes defeated the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus 5-1 in the U SPORTS men's Hockey University Cup quarter-final on Friday afternoon at the Mattamy Athletic Centre in Toronto.
In the first period, the Patriotes scored three times with goals from Charles Beaudoin, Kaylen Gauthier and Kaylen Gauthier. The Aigles Bleus led the shootout 11-9 in this period.
In the second period, the Patriotes added to their lead with a goal from Simon Lafrance. A few minutes later, it was Jeremy Lapointe who finally gave the Aigles Bleus hope with the Aigles' first goal. Following a costly major penalty on William Basque, Felix Lafrance found the back of the net to give the Patriotes a 5-1 lead after 40 minutes of play.
Finally, in the third period, both teams exchanged scoring opportunities without success, and the game ended 5-1 in favour of Trois-Rivières. Moncton led the shootout 34-23. Jeremy Lapointe was named player of the game for the Aigles Bleus.
This defeat ends the Aigles Bleus' season. A season that saw the team qualify for the U SPORTS National Championship, a first since 2012.
