The Université de Moncton is proud to announce the creation of the Canada Research Chair in Sexual Violence, Prevention and Intervention (Level 2) and the renewal of the Canada Research Chair in Mitochondrial Signalling and Pathophysiology (Level 2).

The Canada Research Chair in Sexual Violence, Prevention and Intervention, funded at $500,000 over five years, or $100,000 per year, will be held by Madeline Lamboley, a professor in the Department of Sociology and Criminology. As this is her first term, an annual research allowance of $20,000 will be paid for an additional $100,00.

"This research chair will shed new light on sexual violence between intimate partners from an intersectional feminist perspective, but also with a focus on minority communities. To foster new approaches to prevention and intervention, the objectives will be to analyze different realities and specific environments in order to co-construct tools centred on the experiences and needs of the protagonists, with the participation of various actors in the field. This Chair aims to take into account the overlooked voices, fostering greater creativity by decompartmentalizing research, and valuing experiential knowledge in order to produce useful, applied research results. Finally, the aim is to develop guidelines for decision-makers and politicians, to ensure better defence of rights and better access to justice", explains Madeline Lamboley, Professor in the Department of Sociology and Criminology.

The Canada Research Chair in Mitochondrial Signalling and Pathophysiology, held by Étienne Hébert Chatelain, Professor in the Department of Biology, will be renewed for a second five-year term with a total contribution of $500,000. This chair studies the role of mitochondrial kinases in the development of various diseases, including neurodegenerative diseases and cancer, with the goal of developing new diagnostic and therapeutic tools.

The Canada Research Chairs Program is a federal initiative that enables institutions to attract and retain the world's most accomplished and promising researchers. Tier 1 Chairs are held by outstanding researchers who are recognized by their peers as world leaders in their field, while Tier 2 Chairs are held by outstanding emerging researchers who are recognized by their peers as having the potential to become leaders in their field.
