Game one of the Atlantic University Sport Women's Hockey Quarterfinal Series best of 3 between the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues and the St. Thomas University Tommies will be played Tuesday in Fredericton at 7 p.m. at the Grant Harvey Centre.

The games are promising between these two teams, who have maintained a similar record during the 28 games of the regular season. The Tommies took 4th place in the final standings with 33x points and the Aigles Bleues, 5th with 32 points.

“We'll have to play our own game,” said Aigles Bleues captain Isadora Quirion. “It's the way we play. We've had our ups and downs during the season, but we need to keep it consistent. We'll be able to motivate ourselves for the series. We must play well defensively and then get the puck out of our zone and go on the offensive.”

Coach Marc-André Côté says he's confident about this short series. “I preach consistent play from the first whistle,” he said. “St. Thomas has a good team, but we can play with any club. Regardless of our opponents, we must focus on our game and be efficient on the ice.”

The Aigles Bleues have won 15 games and lost 11 during the regular season in addition to losing one game in a shootout for 32 points. The Tommies are 14-9-2-3 for 33 points. Both teams have a +7-point difference between goals for and against. The Aigles Bleues won 3 of the 4 games between these two clubs’ last season. In the last 10 outings, the Aigles Bleues are 6 and 4 and the Tommies are 4 and 6.

The second game of the series will be played Friday at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena at 7 p.m. A third, if necessary, will be Sunday afternoon in Fredericton. The other quarterfinal series between the Saint Mary's University Huskies and Dalhousie Tigers begins Wednesday.
