4 players to join volleyball Aigles Bleues

Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues volleyball coach Joline Richard is pleased to announce that four players have signed their U SPORTS letter of intent to join her team at the start of the 2024-2025 Atlantic University Sport women's volleyball season.

Josette Muise of Sainte-Anne-du-Ruisseau, Nova Scotia, Mia Ladd of Ottawa, Ontario, Angèle Turenne of LaBroquerie, Manitoba, and Evette Petherick of Port Hope, Ontario, have decided to continue their post-secondary studies at the Moncton campus of the Université de Moncton starting in September 2024.

Josette Muise, 17, is 6 feet tall. She plays for Volleyball Nova Scotia's Southwest Fusion Club. “I want to continue my studies by continuing to play volleyball and share the court with other passionate individuals,” said Josette Muise. “I want to get better every year and be competitive in the league. I've been playing for 7 years, and my strengths are my game intelligence and my versatile game. My goal is to adapt to the university game quickly and improve my defense.” She is enrolled in a bachelor's degree in education at the high school level. She also played soccer, softball, basketball, and badminton.

Mia Ladd, 17, is 5 feet 8 inches tall and a member of the OVA Volleyball Club. She will pursue a bachelor's degree in education (major in English or French). “I really enjoyed my visit to the Université de Moncton. The atmosphere and the grandeur suit me well,” she said. “The coaches made me feel very welcome. My future teammates were sure to include me and make me feel comfortable. All in all, my experience and the culture of the team are what helped me with my choice.” The athlete would like to be able to play with the Aigles Bleues for her 5 years of studies. She wants to help grow the volleyball program and maybe encourage other Ontario girls to come and play in the East. She has been playing for 7 years and describes herself as a good team player. “I'm always willing to learn and I have good communication skills,” she added. “I'd like to be able to develop my volleyball quotient and my strategy in the game. I want to take more risks in a game and be more aggressive in my style of play. I feel the need to communicate more frequently.”

Angèle Turenne, 16, is 5 feet 11 inches tall and originally from St. Boniface. She plays with her Saint-Joachim School Braves team and for the Cobras Club Volleyball U18 and the AA High School League, Zone 13 South. “I've always heard only good things about the Aigles Bleues' program,” said Angèle Turenne. “I've always dreamed of playing at the U SPORTS level. Coming from a very small francophone community, I knew it was going to be a challenge. I was willing to work hard to achieve my goal. My mother tongue is French, and I feel much more comfortable in a French-speaking environment. Many of my family members played volleyball in college, Cégep or university, and I always wanted to be at their level one day. We share a super passion for volleyball. I hope to be able to improve and reach the peak of my volleyball skills during my time in Moncton.” She will be pursuing a degree in kinesiology and hopes to become an athletic therapist for a varsity or professional or semi-professional team. Her aunt Alyssa Turenne is an alumna of the program.

Evette Petherick is 6 feet tall and plays for Synergy Titanium. A forward, she is looking forward to being in Atlantic Canada to continue her studies and pursue her passion for volleyball.

The team is very happy to welcome these players according to coach Joline Richard, who is continuing to recruit. These players will add to the team's offensive production at the net and will be able to make a difference defensively.
