Report on the Naming of the Université de Moncton Released
The Board of Governors of the Université de Moncton has received and made public the report Dénomination de l'Université de Moncton : un état des lieux, by Stéphanie Chouinard and Maurice Basque.
Last June, the Université announced that it had been asked by the Board of Governors to prepare a report on the current state of affairs so that the members of the board could make an informed decision on whether to launch a public reflection on the name of the Université de Moncton.
"I would like to thank Stéphanie Chouinard and Maurice Basque for their work and commitment to this mandate," said Denis Mallet, Chair of the Board of Governors of the Université de Moncton. "From the beginning, we promised to make this process public and transparent, and I'm proud of the work we've done so far. The Board of Governors of the Université does not take this process lightly, and we must ensure that we are well equipped to make thoughtful decisions."
The mandate was to produce an independent report of an informative and technical nature, examining the sociohistorical, political, social, reputational, legal and economic aspects of a university name change and its implications for the Université de Moncton. Leaders should draw on the expertise of resource persons to identify best practices for a participatory and collective reflection process, should one be undertaken.
Given the stakes and the importance of the issue, and in order to ensure an objective analysis, a first reading of this report is scheduled for the next meeting of the Board of Governors of the Université, on December 9.
