Cassidy Martin and Jacob Dion named UMoncton Athletes of the Week
Cassidy Martin of Saint-Charles-de-Kent, New Brunswick and Jacob Dion of Sherbrooke, Quebec, are the IRM Moncton MRI athletes of the week from November 13 to 19, 2023 as chosen by the Athletic Department of the Moncton campus of the Université de Moncton.
Setter Cassidy Martin is playing her 4th season with the Aigles Bleues in women's volleyball. She was a key player in her team's two wins over a strong team this weekend. She played all 9 sets with 45 assists and 14 digs on Friday in Halifax and 37 assists with 6 digs and 3 points on Sunday in Moncton. She was chosen her team’s player of the game on Sunday. Her play allowed her teammates to score points that were instrumental in the victories. She is a 5th year Bachelor of Education (physical education) program student.
2nd year defenseman Jacob Dion was an inspiration to his team during the Aigles Bleus two victories in men's hockey. He scored a goal and added 2 assists on Friday night while finishing the game at +3 with 6 shots on goal. On Saturday, he added a goal and an assist with an incredible 9 shots on goal and finished +2. He was chosen the game’s second star. His play as an offensive defender paid off with goals that made a difference in both games. He is a 2nd year student in the Bachelor of Social Sciences (criminology) program.
