Professor Jalila Jbilou Wins ResearchNB's Changemaker of the Year Award

Dr. Jalila Jbilou, Associate Professor in the School of Psychology at the Université de Moncton and Research Professor affiliated with the Centre de formation médicale du Nouveau-Brunswick (CFMNB), has been named the recipient of ResearchNB's Changemaker of the Year Award. The award was presented at the Health Research Week 2023 Gala on November 16 by the Honourable Bruce Fitch, Minister of Health, and Damon Goodwin, President and CEO of ResearchNB.

The award recognizes a New Brunswick health researcher from academia, a public research institution, a regional health authority, government or the private sector whose research has had a tangible impact on the health care system or population health in New Brunswick. Université de Moncton Associate Professor Rodney Ouellette was also one of three finalists for the award.

Dr. Jbilou trained as a public health physician and holds a master's and doctoral degree in community health. She specializes in intervention research and behavioural health. She works with a variety of stakeholders to develop integrated primary care models, including innovative technology solutions. She is also interested in the science of implementation and evaluation. Among the many studies Dr. Jbilou is conducting, her favourite is the TH@Clinic project, which consists of conducting a pragmatic randomized clinical trial to implement and test a virtual integrated primary care clinic among 200 truck drivers in New Brunswick. Preliminary results already show a clear and consistent impact of this care model on participants' health. She is currently working on adapting it for other professional groups and expanding it to other Canadian provinces.

Congratulations to Dr. Jbilou for this wonderful recognition of the scope of her impact on the health care system and the health of populations in New Brunswick!
