Hockey: Aigles Bleus aim for 2 more wins
Having won their last four games, the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus (4-2-0-0=8pts, 2nd position) want to improve their record to 6 and 2 with two weekends home games in Atlantic University Sport men's hockey action.
The Saint Mary's University Huskies (3-3-0-0=6pts, 3rd position) will be the visitors on Friday at 7 p.m. and the Acadia University Axemen (2-3-0-1=5pts, 4th position) on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m., both games at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena.
These are the two teams that are hot on the heels of the Blue and Gold in the standings and the coach is looking to widen the gap.
“It's our weekend to assert ourselves,” said head coach Derek Cormier. “We beat those two teams last weekend and we'll have to fight again to win. We're taking it one game at a time. It's a busy weekend against two good teams. We need to continue the work of last week. They'll want to beat us at home, and they've worked hard this week in practice. We'll be ready for them.”
“We're preparing in the same way as we did last week,” added the forward player Alexandre Couture. “We must come into practice with the mentality of working hard. To win, we will have to forecheck hard in units of 5 and each line will have to play its part. Defensively, we need to block shots and stay out of the zone. We can't wait to see our parents again and it remains a point of excitement. However, we must stay in our bubble and play well.”
It's the return weekend for the players' parents. They will be presented on the ice before Friday night's game.
Olivier-Luc Haché, Mika Cyr and Vincent Lanoue are still out with injuries. Olivier Adam will be the starting goaltender on Friday.
