The Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues kick off their Atlantic University Sport women's hockey season on the road Wednesday when the team visits the University of Prince Edward Island Panthers in Charlottetown at 7 p.m.

Moncton will then host the University of New Brunswick Reds on Friday night for their home opener at 7 p.m. at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena.

This is a fifth season behind the bench for head coach Marc-André Côté, who has seen his team lose in two of the three preseason games. He is looking forward to starting this campaign with several good rookies and a high number of returning veterans.

“We are planning an interesting season for our fans with a strong and competitive team,” said Côté. “Our players have one more year of experience and the 7 rookies promise. I liked the way we played in the last two periods against the Panthers in Memramcook (last Saturday). We will have a fast team, with depth. Our three goalkeepers are back. There are five experienced players on the defensive squad and our forwards know what to expect to stand out.”

Côté can count on three experienced goalkeepers, Audrey Berthiaume, Annick Boudreau and Alexandra Desjardins. The players with the most experience are Shani Rossignol, Émilie Lalancette, Isadora Quirion, Alexia Desforges, Cassandra Call and Audrey Berthiaume. Monica Richard, Marie-Soleil Simard, Amélie Vachon, Laura Tremblay, Elizabeth Galipeau and Valérie Haché are the rookies. Janie Caissie, Élodie St-Jacques, Annick Boudreau, Ashley Lafrance, Erica Plourde, Ayann Lamoureux, Lianne Desforges, Clémence Dumesnil, Maritza Labrie, Sara Régimbald, Emily Gravelle, Émilie Comeau and Alexandra Desjardins are the other experienced players. Samuel Bastille, Tanya Martin, and Dave Kennedy are the assistant coaches for the season.

The Aigles Bleues finished the 2022-2023 season in 6th place with a record of 11-17-0=22 points. The team then lost 2-1 to the Saint Mary's University Huskies in a best of 3 series, losing 3-2 in double overtime in the deciding game 3.

Public can purchase tickets for Friday night's game at the CEPS reception desk or at the arena one hour before the game.
