Soccer: Aigles in Halifax on Saturday

There are only four games left on the Atlantic University Sports regular soccer schedule for the two Université de Moncton campus soccer teams.

The Aigles Bleues (0-5-3=3pts, 9th position) and the Aigles Bleus (2-3-3=9pts, 6th position) are still looking to qualify for the season-ending playoffs and wins are needed Saturday in Halifax as both teams face the Saint Mary's University Huskies at 5 p.m. (women; 1-4-1=4pts, 8th position) and 7:15 p.m. (men, 3-2-1=10pts, 5th position).

“This is a team within our reach and we will do everything to get our first win of the season,” said Aigles Bleues women's coach Mehyar Zekaroui. “Despite injuries to key players, I am confident that the starting 11 will make a difference on the field. We need points in the standings to climb and qualify for the playoffs in this short regular season.”

The coach of the Aigles Bleus men's Younes Bouida knows that his team holds the 6th and last qualifying position for the playoffs. “The standings are very tight, and a few points will make a difference,” he said. “We know this game is crucial to widen the gap between us and the 7th position team.”

The soccer teams will have the following week off before hosting the Dalhousie University Tigers on Saturday, October 14 at Stade Medavie Blue Cross Stadium.
