L’AEUM leaves the negotiating table and goes on strike on Monday
Following a meeting, in the presence of the mediator, between the administration of the Université de Moncton and the Association of employees of the Université de Moncton – Administrative support staff and maintenance staff and trades (AEUM), the AEUM ended the discussions by refusing the employer's last offer and binding arbitration.
The University proposed several scenarios and believed the latest offer was respectful, fair, consistent with the market and reflects the important work of AEUM members. Despite Monday’s strike, activities on the Moncton campus will with be maintained.
According to the Vice-President of Administration and Human Resources, Gabriel Cormier, “The objective of the University has always been to respect the negotiation process in good faith to reach a negotiated agreement. We are very disappointed by the refusal of the offer and the union's refusal to use the binding arbitration process that would have avoided the strike. ’’
The two parties had called on a conciliator last May, but unfortunately, this approach did not bear fruit even after the filing of her report in July.
The Université de Moncton has been in negotiations with the l’AEUM since December 12, 2022.
