Highlights of June 10 Board of Governors Meeting

Climate Action Plan Adopted

The Board adopted the Université de Moncton's 2023-2028 Climate Action Plan (available in French only) which aims for an ambitious, institution-wide ecological transition.

The Université de Moncton is committed to reducing its energy consumption, optimizing the operation of university activities and working with the university community to minimize energy-emitting activities.

“I am delighted that we are now in a position to initiate the implementation of our Climate Action Plan, a flagship action of our Setting Course for the Future Strategy,” said Gabriel Cormier, Vice-President, Administration and Human Resources. “I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Jean-Philippe Sapinski and all those who have contributed to the development of this plan, and I invite the entire university community to take personal action now to help achieve our goal of institutional carbon neutrality by 2040.”

Through its actions, the Université de Moncton aims to become a leader in the transformation of society, particularly in terms of eco-responsibility.

Name of the Shippagan Campus Library

The library at the Université de Moncton, Shippagan campus, will henceforth be known as bibliothèque Aldéa-Landry.

Aldéa Landry's list of achievements is impressive. She was the first Acadian woman appointed Minister for the Government of New Brunswick, the first woman to chair the Atlantic Provinces Economic Council, a nationally renowned businesswoman, and a committed volunteer on numerous boards, committees and roundtables. She holds honorary doctorates from four universities, including one from the Université de Moncton. Landry was also awarded the Médaille d'honneur de l'Université de Moncton for her contribution to the advancement of the institution, and recently received the Médaille d'officier de l'Ordre national du Mérite français. An official ceremony will be held in the fall of 2023.

Several Important Appointments

  • Renewal of the mandate of Chancellor Louise Imbeault.

This represents the second term for Ms. Imbeault, who became the ninth chancellor of the Université de Moncton in 2018.

“The title of chancellor is more than an honorary title; this person acts as a liaison between the community and the university, and I can't think of a better person than Ms. Imbeault to forge this alliance,” says Denis Mallet, Chair of the Board of Governors. “Her natural connection with the community, her passion for the Francophone language and her professional background are great assets for our flagship institution in Acadie.”

  • Andrée Roy appointed Dean of the Faculty of Administration
  • Erik Labelle Eastaugh appointed Dean of the Faculty of Law
  • Horia-Daniel Iancu appointed Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences and Community Services
  • Interim appointment of Jeanne-Mance Cormier, Library General Manager, extended
  • Interim appointment of Frédéric Huppé-Gourgues, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences and Community Services, extended
