Marc Surette Receives the Donald J. Savoie Award for Research Excellence
Marc Surette, Professor and Researcher with the Faculty of Science, received the Donald J. Savoie Award for Excellence in Research at the May 27 convocation.
The prize is awarded annually to a faculty member at the Université de Moncton who has made outstanding contributions in research, which also includes development, creation and innovation.
Dr Surette has been a research professor in the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department at the Université de Moncton since 2004 and held the New Brunswick Innovation Research Chair in Biosciences as well as a Canada Research Chair in cellular lipid metabolism. He was one of the visionaries and key architects who led the effort to conceptualize and fund the first clinical research centre in New Brunswick, the New Brunswick Centre for Precision Medicine (NBCPM).
He is known for his excellence in scientific research and has made a remarkable contribution to the advancement of knowledge in the field of health and social well-being. In addition, Surette is recognized as a mentor not only to students, but also to many colleagues. He received the Université de Moncton's Excellence in Mentoring Award in 2016.
