A total of eight medical school seats will be added to the 2023 cohort of the Centre de formation médicale du Nouveau-Brunswick (CFMNB) at the Université de Moncton.

This means that four new seats funded by the Government of New Brunswick, plus four from Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island (three from NS and one from PEI), will be added next year to the 24 already in place, for a new total of 32.

“We are very pleased to have the opportunity to add students to our cohort next year and in future years. Each seat is valuable and will have an impact on the delivery of francophone health care services to our communities,” said Dr. Michel H. Landry, director of the CFMNB.

“This announcement is an important step forward for the recruitment and retention of new physicians in Acadie,” added Dr. Denis Prud'homme, President and Vice-Chancellor of the Université de Moncton. “We are optimistic that this is just the beginning, and we thank our valued partners who allow us to provide medical training in our region in French.”

The government's investment to fund the four new seats will be $172,000 annually and is in addition to the $4.8 million already committed to the CFMNB for the MD program.
