Men's Hockey: Aigles Bleus face UNB on Friday
Fans will get an overview of the 2022-2023 edition of the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus men's hockey team on Friday as the team travels to Fredericton for a duel against the University of New Brunswick Reds at 7 p.m. at the local Aitken University Centre.
This is the first of four exhibition games. The new season kicks off on Wednesday, October 5 in Charlottetown against the University of Prince Edward Island Panthers.
The team has been training for three weeks on and off the ice and new head coach Derek Cormier is looking forward to his first game as a leader behind the bench. He was an assistant coach last season.
“It's going to be my first game and I'm excited and a little nervous,” he said in preparation for the new season. “It's natural and I can't wait to start the season. We have come a long way together since the first training days. We especially wanted to get back in shape during the first two weeks with skating and execution. Last week, we added the systems. We are ready to face UNB with good quality players.”
Cormier will be able to count on most of his players for this game. He points out that everyone is healthy at the beginning of the season. “It's another big challenge for me and I'm happy to be here. The players responded very well to our training.”
The team has 18 players from last year with 6 promising rookies. The game will be streamed on AUStv.ca beginning at 7 p.m.
