Men’s soccer: four rookies to join Aigles Bleus

The Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus will have four rookies for the next Atlantic University Sport men’s soccer season.

Alex Basque, from Tracadie, Antony Gallant, from Moncton, Maxime Bertrand, from Clare (Nova Scotia), and Zachary D’Astous, from Edmundston, are the four rookies who have confirmed with new coach Younes Bouida they will be at training camp.

Alex Basque is a grade 12 student at Polyvalente W.-A.-Losier. He has played the last four seasons with his high school team, the Bisons. He has 12 years of experience, measures 6 feet 1 inch, weighs 180 lbs and plays as a central defencemen.

“The Aigles Bleus have a good team, and my cousin and player Félix Robichaud has encouraged me to play here,” Basque said. “I want to do my best, add my values to the team and help it win more games. My strength is my defensive play, and I am strong physically. I enjoy playing one-on-one. For the next five years, I want to continue my progression as a player and help the team.” Basque will study civil engineering and hopes to become an architect.

Anthony Gallant, 18 years old, is a grade 12 student at L’Odyssée. He measures 5 feet 8 inches, weighs 155 lbs and is a striker. He has played with Soccer New Brunswick high performance Academy and with various New Brunswick teams.

“I wish to continue my development as a player with the Aigles Bleus and help the team to win,” Gallant said. “I have speed, enjoy bringing the ball to the opposite defensive players and shoot. With the Aigles Bleus, I want to progress on my mental and defensive play. I really enjoy this sport. It is the first one I tried out 12 years ago and I continued.” He will study leisure, sports and tourism management.

Maxime Bertrand is a midfield player who has also played with Soccer New Brunswick high performance Academy. He measures 5 feet 9 inches. He will study in administration (marketing).

Defensive player Zachary D’Astous is also a product of Soccer New Brunswick high performance Academy. He measures 5 feet 8 inches and will follow studies in criminology.
