Three U de M teams in Nova Scotia this Saturday

Three Université de Moncton teams travel to Nova Scotia on Saturday in Atlantic University Sport action.

The women’s hockey team (9-10-2=20 points, 5th position) will be in Antigonish for a duel with the St. Francis Xavier University X-Women (18-1-2=38 points, 1st position), at 3 p.m. The team has three games left in the regular schedule with five points ahead of the Panthers and four behind the Tigers. “We will pursue on our momentum heading to the playoffs,” Moncton coach Denis Ross said. “We are playing the first-place team, so it will be a good test for us. We have a win and two losses against them this season, so we are looking for another victory or a very good performance to build our confidence.” Gabrielle Forget will be between the pipes, and Natacha Ireland and Janie Poitras will miss the game.

The men’s hockey team will also be in Antigonish on Saturday for a game with the X-Men (21-1-4=46 points, 1st position) at 7 p.m. “This is another game with a top team, and I know we will battle hard,” Judes Vallée indicated. “We know we are eliminated from the playoffs, but we have nothing to lose. We cannot let our losses define who we are as a team. We still have our pride, and we need to play for our graduating players. We have played good games against the X-Men, and some players still have something to prove.”

The women’s volleyball team will be in Wolfville for a game against the Acadia University Axewomen (9-5=18 points, 3rd position) at 7 p.m. The Aigles Bleues (4-12=8 points, 5st position) are looking to continue their progress as a team, and to build on this performance for the coming season, being eliminated from the playoffs. “This is another game that will help us work as a team and continue our progress,” coach Monette Boudreau-Carroll indicated. “The players are more comfortable in their positions, and last Wednesday’s win was important for the integration of the rookies in the line-up. We are capable of playing with this team.”
