Thanks to their generosity, Claude Roussel and members of his family have established a scholarship fund in his honour. The new Claude Roussel/NBPSOF (New Brunswick Post-Secondary Opportunities Fund) Scholarship Fund proudly carries the name of the founder of the Université de Moncton’s visual arts department and the Galerie d’art Louise-et-Reuben-Cohen (“Louise and Reuben Cohen Art Gallery”).

The scholarship fund is valued at $30,000. The first scholarship will be awarded in the winter of 2019 when income is generated from the fund.

Claude Roussel/NBPSOF Scholarships will be awarded to full-time students in their third or fourth year of a visual arts program, providing financial support to the next generation of young people. This type of philanthropic engagement contributes significantly to the enrichment of the student experience.

Mr. Roussel became the founding professor of the Université de Moncton’s visual arts department in 1963 and taught until he retired in 1992. During that time, he served as the department’s director from 1963 to 1971 and from 1976 to 1979. He founded the art gallery in 1965.

A renowned artist and pioneer of sculpture and modern art in Acadie, Mr. Roussel continues to contribute in a significant way to the development of the visual arts.
