MONCTON – Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus hockey operations director, Jean-François Damphousse, has announced that forwards Thierry Comtois and Mathieu Lapointe are committed to join the men’s hockey team for the next Atlantic University Sport season.

This will be a return for Thierry Comtois as he played two seasons with the Aigles Bleus. Lapointe played the last two seasons with the Amherst Ramblers of the Maritime Junior Hockey League.

''I did take a year off hockey last season to pursue business interests,'' said Thierry Comtois who founded web base “Grads Finder”, a computer program to help graduates and companies find employers or employees. ''I did miss the hockey and I decided to go back to university for my master’s in business administration. I played two seasons with the Aigles Bleus and following discussions with Jean-François Damphousse and Judes Vallée, I decided to come back''

Comtois, 24, had 6 goals and 15 assists in 54 games, over two seasons, with the Blue and Gold. He also played with the Dieppe Commandos, in 2013-2014 and with Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Val d’Or Foreurs, for three seasons.

''I am excited to come back and play after a year off,'' Comtois added. ''I am still in shape and it will be a nice challenge. I will continue to work on my business while studying and playing hockey.'' Comtois is 6 feet, 185 pounds. He had played minor hockey under coach Judes Vallée.

Mathieu Lapointe played the last season and parts of another with the Amherst Ramblers. In 48 games last year, he had 34 goals and 40 assists, for 74 points and 127 penalty minutes.

An Edmonton, Alberta native, the 21-year-old player played with Dauphin Kings of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League and with the Drayton Valley Thunder and Spruce Grove Saints of the Alberta Junior Hockey League. He also played with Dream Valley, in England. He is 6 feet, 4 inches, 205 lbs.

''I heard about the history of the Aigles Bleus program and I want to play for this team'' said Mathieu Lapointe who is at home in Edmonton for the summer. ''I will pursue a bachelor in mechanical engineering. I did attend a few university caliber games last season and I know it`s a faster and higher caliber game. It will take me a few games to adjust, but I am confident I can play university hockey.''

A forward, Lapointe enjoys getting in front of the opponent’s net with his size. ''I am a power forward'' added Lapointe. ''’I am devoted to getting ready this summer with practices off and on the ice. I am privileged and honored to be able to play with the Aigles Bleus.

''Comtois completed his bachelor degree and still had an urge to play hockey,’’ stated Jean-François Damphousse. ''He wished to come back and play, but wanted to give a 100 per cent commitment. He will be an important player for our program. He brings maturity, university hockey experience and leadership. He is the type of player we are looking for. As for Mathieu Lapointe, he has been described as a player with character, somebody who can contribute with his physical play. He is a hard worker with very good work ethic.''
