GROUPE-PONT
YOUR BRIDGE TOWARDS BECOMING
FLUENTLY BILINGUAL
As a non-Francophone student,
you will apply for admission into
the undergraduate program of your
choice at Université de Moncton
(Arts Programs, Business, Education,
Science, etc.) as would a Francophone
student. During the first year of your
bachelor’s degree, concurrently with
your other courses, you will follow
an integrated set of four French
language courses (two per semester),
specifically tailored for Anglophones,
and known as Groupe-Pont or
“Bridge Program”.
After the first year, once you’ve
finished the Groupe-Pont program,
you will not need any additional
French language courses, unless you
choose to specialize in Translation or
Journalism (Information-Communication).
Your Groupe-Pont courses will be
credited as electives. As a result,
the time required to obtain your
bachelor’s degree at UdeM (and
become fully bilingual) is the same
as for Francophone students.
CONDITIONS:
In addition to the program’s admission
requirements (see p. 7), the only condition
necessary to be accepted into an undergraduate
degree at UdeM, and into the Groupe-Pont
program, is that your French speaking
and comprehension skills are adequate
(see ”Enrolling is EASY” on the next page).
COURSES:
The courses offered within the Groupe-Pont
program will help you improve your written
skills. You will have the opportunity to
experience the French language and culture
first hand through many campus activities.
This will facilitate your transition to campus
life, help you become fluently bilingual as well
as increase your overall confidence in French.
The Groupe-Pont program includes two
mandatory courses each semester,
and two optional courses:
1. A study of French grammar (FRLS 3562
and FRLS 3572);
2. A study of the written structure (FRLS 4532);
3. A study of oral French (FRLS 3552);
4. Two optional courses on the development
of French vocabulary (FRLS 3532 and
FRLS 4522) are offered on the Web.
