Men’s Hockey: Aigles and Panthers face off Friday
The Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus (15-11-3-0=33pts, 2nd position) visit the University of Prince Edward Island Panthers (12-12-1-3=28pts, 5th position) on Friday in their final regular season game of the 2023-2024 Atlantic University Sport men's hockey season in Charlottetown at 7 p.m.
Even if they are assured of a second position, the Aigles Bleus need a moral victory having lost their last two games and all 4 against the Panthers this season. The Panthers have won their last two games and are still looking to climb in the standings for home-ice advantage in next week's quarter-final series.
“It's our last game before the semifinals,” said Aigles Bleus coach Derek Cormier. “We will be able to enjoy a little rest and give the wounds a chance to heal next week. It's important to start the game well and be consistent for 60 minutes. We had a good season, and we want to finish it well.”
The Aigles Bleus lost all 4 games to the Panthers by scores of 4-2; 5-2; 7-0 and 5-4. The team will have one week without a game before starting a semifinal series. The last season that the Bleu et Or qualified directly for the semi-finals was in 2006-2007 with a first place in the overall standings.
The game can be viewed at the AUStv.ca.
