Erica Plourde and Max Mazerolle are UMoncton's athletes of the week
Erica Plourde of Pigeon Hill and Max Mazerolle of Cocagne, New Brunswick, are the IRM Moncton MRI athletes for the week of January 22 to 28, 2024, as chosen by the Athletic Department of the Moncton campus of the Université de Moncton.
Forward Erica Plourde scored her second hat trick in a week in the Aigles Bleues 5-2 win in women's hockey on Saturday evening in Halifax. In the 2 weekend games, she took 7 shots and was +3 on Saturday in addition to having a 53 per cent percentage on faceoffs. She is a 3rd year student in the Bachelor of Education-physical education program.
Max Mazerolle on Sunday became the first Université de Moncton athlete to win the heptathlon at the 28th annual McGill Track and Field Team Challenge. Mazerolle collected 4717 points in all seven events of the competition. He set a Université de Moncton record at the same time with almost 150 points more than the previous holder. He also established a provincial U23 record in this discipline. He is a 4th year student in the Bachelor of Kinesiology Program.
