New scholarship fund named for Claude Roussel, founder of the Université de Moncton’s visual arts department and art gallery

The scholarship fund is valued at $30,000. The first scholarship will be awarded in the winter of 2019 when income is generated from the fund.
Claude Roussel/NBPSOF Scholarships will be awarded to full-time students in their third or fourth year of a visual arts program, providing financial support to the next generation of young people. This type of philanthropic engagement contributes significantly to the enrichment of the student experience.
Mr. Roussel became the founding professor of the Université de Moncton’s visual arts department in 1963 and taught until he retired in 1992. During that time, he served as the department’s director from 1963 to 1971 and from 1976 to 1979. He founded the art gallery in 1965.
A renowned artist and pioneer of sculpture and modern art in Acadie, Mr. Roussel continues to contribute in a significant way to the development of the visual arts.
