Nelson Ouellet
, a history and geography department
professor, conducted a research at the Vanderbilt
University in Nashville as part of the Canada-U.S.
Fulbright Visiting Chairs Program. It is one of the
most prestigious exchange programs for university
researchers. Professor Ouellet’s research was in his field
of specialization – the social history of the United States.
Donald J. Savoie
, holder of the Canada Research Chair
in Public Administration and Governance, coedited a
recent book with John G. Reid, a history professor at
Saint Mary’s University. Entitled
Shaping an agenda for
Atlantic Canada
, the book examines the issues facing
the Atlantic Canada’s positioning within the country.
Mr. Savoie is also one of the new recepients of the Order
of New Brunswick, the highest honor of the Province of
New Brunswick. Researcher, fellow, well-known author,
Mr. Savoie is also known as Canada’s leading expert in
public administration.
Richard Gibson
, a music professor, received a musician’s
achievement award from the East Coast Music
Awards. His music includes compositions for all types
of instruments and voice, from guitar solos to complex
arrangements for orchestras and choirs.
Tina Émond
, an Edmundston Campus clinical nursing
professor, who had launched
L’allaitement… un précieux

in 2010,
just published an English revised version of the
manual entitled

Bernard LeBlanc
, Musée acadien curator, received
the Association Museums New Brunswick’s 2011 Merit
Award in recognition of his commitment and dedication
to preserving the Acadian heritage.
Martin Dubé
, an Edmundston Campus associate biology
professor, was the recipient of the Mary-E.-Elliott Award
given each year to an individual for meritorious service
to the Canadian Botanical Association.
Serge Bourgeois
, head coach of the men’s hockey
team, was named coach of the year by the Université
de Moncton, Atlantic University Sports and Canadian
Interuniversity Sports.
Yvon Fontaine
received a doctorate honoris causa from
the Université de Nantes during a ceremony organized
to confer honorary degrees on the occasion of the
50
th
anniversary of the French institution.
Jacques Gagnon
, Coastal Zones Research Institute
scientific director, fisheries and marine products,
received a R3-Innovation-Award-for-Excellence
in Applied Research from the New Brunswick
Innovation Foundation.
The New Brunswick Innovation Foundation honored
three researchers for their outstanding contributions to
their respective fields of expertise through high quality
applied research projects. One of these is

, a physics and astronomy department professor
and director of the research group on thin film glass
and photonic crystal.
Samuel Gaudet
, a mathematics and statistics
department professor, developed a new iPhone/iPod
application to analyze the execution of golf putts.
To mark the end of his mandate as President and Vice-
Chancellor,
Yvon Fontaine
was honored during a
reception held on May 23 at the Hotel Delta Beauséjour
in Moncton. Close to 450 people were in attendance.
A number of well-known VIPs paid tribute to
Mr. Fontaine who led the Université de Moncton
for the past 12 years. A portrait of Mr. Fontaine
by artist Claude Picard was unveiled.
Herménégilde Chiasson
is a winner of the
Canada Council of the Arts Molson Prize for the Arts.
Mr. Chiasson has had exceptional achievements in several
artistic disciplines, namely literature, theatre, cinema and
visual arts. The first Acadian to have received this honor,
he has published 15 books of poetry, produced 17 films
and authored 25 plays. A great number of these plays
have been presented across Canada, and his art has
been exposed in more than a hundred galleries.
Narendra K. Srivastava
, a faculty of engineering
professor emeritus, is the co-author of a new book on
engineering and structural architecture entitled
Fifty Years
of Progress for Shell and Spatial Structures
. The book
documents milestones with respect to shell and spatial
structures during the five last decades.
Sid-Ahmed Selouani
, a Shippagan Campus professor,
published a book entitled
Speech Processing and Soft
Computing at Springer
editions (New York, USA).
