Raymond Blanchard
was the recipient of the
Vo-Van Award for submitting the best thesis this year.
Completed under the direction of Professor Joceline
Chabot, his master’s thesis in history was entitled
D’allié à ennemi : stéréotypes et représentations des
combattants russes dans les magazines illustrés français
de la Première Guerre mondiale
(1914-1919)
. The jury
was unanimous in giving the mark “excellence” to
Mr. Blanchard’s thesis funded through a Social Sciences
and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) scholarship.
Following the results of the Licentiate of the Medical
Council of Canada (LMCC), Part 1,
students of the
doctoral program in Medicine
from the Université
de Sherbrooke ranked second amongst the
17 Canadian medical schools. Students from the
Moncton site performed as well as their colleagues
from Sherbrooke and Saguenay. This is the final
examination to obtain their MD diploma.
Shawn LeBlanc
and
Patrick Lanteigne
, both civil
engineering students, won the Red Bull Racing Can
national finale in Montreal. Teams were assessed on
the design, style and technical performance of their
racing cars, hand-made exclusively with Red Bull cans.
Of the 16 teams taking part in the grand finale in
England, the Université de Moncton team finished eighth.
Alex Martin
, an Edmundston Campus student who
has completed his first year in business administration,
achieved quite an extraordinary feat during the last
UMCE-CCNB stock market competition. He made
more than a million dollars. The young Edmundston
resident’s initial investment of $200,000 generated
$1,339,053, a return of $1,139,053.
The law faculty team of
Ludmilla Jarda
and
Clémence
Talbot
, an exchange student from l’Université de
Poitiers, won the regional first instance moot court
competition and was awarded the McKelvey Cup.
Another team composed of
Marie-Josée Ouellette
and Ian
Mathieu-Girard
, finished in second place. Law
students also won four of the five individuals’ awards.
Lucie Leclerc
of Grand Falls and
Andréanne Shank
of Sturgeon Falls in Ontario, second-year law students,
won the trophy during the
Pierre-Armand Landry
school tribunal which took place in Moncton. This
year, the school tribunal was presided by Justice Marc
Richard from the Court of Appeal of New Brunswick
and Justice Jean-Paul Ouellette from the Court of
Queen’s Bench of New Brunswick.
Julie-Christine Morin
, an education student
(B. Sc.-B. Ed. – concentration in biology), scooped
up two coveted awards during the Edmundston
Campus student recognition night on April 12, 2012:
the awards for best athlete and personality of the year.
Thierry Arseneau
of Nigadoo, a Shippagan Campus
health sciences student, won first prize for the New
Brunswick French-speaking district in the Canadian
Chemistry Contest sponsored by the Chemical
Institute of Canada.
The Université de Moncton and the Moncton Campus
student federation presented certificates of merit to
four students in recognition of their leadership and
dedication during the course of their studies. Recipients
are
Pape Ousmane Sine
, a business administration
(concentration in systems management) graduate;
Marc-André LeBlanc
, a bachelor of arts graduate
majoring in information-communications;
Ghislain
LeBlanc
, a business administration (concentration
in accounting) graduate, and
Justin Guitard
, a
bachelor of education (progra m A) graduate.
During their annual general meeting held in May in
Dieppe, the Consortium national de formation en
santé awarded a 2012-2013 scholarship for academic
excellence to
Marie-Ève Cloutier
. A Moncton Campus
nutrition student, Marie-Ève not only maintains an
excellent academic record, but is also very involved
in her community and the Francophonie.
